These spooky food appetizers look like creepy eyeballs but taste like a delicious Italian antipasto! Made with mozzarella balls, olives, and red pepper, they’re a no-cook Halloween party snack that’s quick to prep and sure to impress.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack of small mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
  • 15–20 Castelvetrano olives (pitted)
  • 1 jar of roasted red peppers
  • Hot sauce or balsamic glaze (for “blood”)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil or spinach leaves (optional, for serving base)
  • Toothpicks or cocktail sticks

Instructions

  1. Drain and prep: Drain mozzarella balls and pat dry. Slice olives into rounds and cut red peppers into small circles.
  2. Assemble eyeballs: Place one olive slice on each mozzarella ball, then top with a red pepper circle. Press gently to adhere or use a toothpick.
  3. Add spooky detail: Use a piping bag or toothpick to draw thin veins with hot sauce or glaze for a bloodshot effect.
  4. Skewer and serve: Thread each eyeball onto a toothpick. Arrange on a platter over greens or with a dip bowl for display.
  5. Chill or serve: Serve immediately or chill for up to 24 hours before your Halloween party.

Notes

  • Use different olive colors for eerie eyeball variety.
  • Chill before serving to help flavors develop and hold their shape.
  • Add cherry tomatoes for a “bloody tear” twist.
  • Stick upright in a pumpkin or cabbage head for a dramatic display.
  • Prep eyeball toppings in advance and assemble day-of for best presentation.
