These Fried Broccoli and Cheese Balls are crispy, cheesy, and loaded with flavor. Whether deep-fried, baked, or made in the air fryer, they’re a perfect appetizer or veggie snack for parties, picky eaters, or lunchbox meal prep. A fun and delicious way to enjoy more greens in bite-sized form!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked and finely chopped broccoli (well-drained)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • ¾ cup breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon onion powder

  • Optional: red pepper flakes, to taste

 

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or avocado oil)

Instructions

  1. Cook broccoli until tender, then chop finely and squeeze out excess moisture.

  2. In a large bowl, mix broccoli, cheddar, Parmesan, breadcrumbs, eggs, garlic, pepper, salt, and onion powder until well combined.

  3. Roll the mixture into 1 to 1.5-inch balls. Chill for 15–30 minutes.

  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.

  5. Fry the balls in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy.

  6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Air Fryer Option:

 

  • Preheat to 375°F (190°C). Spray basket with oil.

  • Place chilled balls in a single layer.

  • Spray tops with oil and air fry for 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: Refrigerate uncooked balls for 2 days or freeze up to 2 months.

  • Reheat in air fryer or oven at 375°F until crisp.

  • Customize with different cheeses or add cauliflower, spinach, or kale.

 

  • Serve with ranch, marinara, sriracha mayo, or garlic aioli.
