Description

This rich and creamy French Onion Pasta Salad combines caramelized onions, sour cream, and savory soup mix for a bold and unforgettable dish that can be served warm or cold. Perfect for potlucks, holidays, and cozy meals.

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound pasta (shells, bowtie, or rotini)
2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter
1 packet dry French onion soup mix
1½ cups sour cream
Salt and pepper, to taste
Chives or green onions, for garnish (optional)
Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Cook pasta in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  • In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add onions and caramelize for 20–25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and soft.

  • In a large bowl, mix sour cream and dry French onion soup mix until combined.

  • Fold in caramelized onions.

  • Add warm pasta and mix gently until fully coated.

  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  • Garnish with chives or green onions and Parmesan cheese if desired.

  • Serve warm or chill for later.

Notes

Use high-quality sour cream for the best texture and flavor.

Let the salad rest in the fridge for a few hours if serving cold.

Add-ins like bacon, mushrooms, or herbs can elevate the dish further.
