Great for potlucks, parties, or just because!

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 can (20 oz / 565 g) crushed pineapple, undrained
  • 1 jar (16 oz / 454 g) maraschino cherries, drained and halved
  • 1/2 cup (85 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • 1 box (15.25 oz / 432 g) yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • Optional garnish: whipped cream, sprinkles, or more cherries for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange banana slices evenly on the bottom of the dish. Spoon crushed pineapple (with juice) over bananas, then scatter halved cherries, chocolate chips, and nuts (if using) on top.
  3. Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over the fruit layer.
  4. Pour melted butter evenly over the cake mix. Do not stir.
  5. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until golden and bubbly. Cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use ripe but not overripe bananas for the best texture and flavor.
  • Drain cherries well to avoid excess liquid.
  • Don’t skimp on butter — it helps create the golden, crisp topping.
  • Pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream for serving.
