Ingredients

Fruit Layer:

  • 4–5 ripe bananas, sliced

  • ⅓ cup brown sugar (light or dark)

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ¾ cup milk

  • ¼ cup melted butter

Topping:

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 1 cup hot water

Optional Add-ins:

  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans

  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (for added spice)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • In a bowl, toss banana slices with brown sugar, melted butter, cinnamon, and vanilla. Spread evenly in the baking dish.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and melted butter until smooth.

  • Pour batter evenly over banana mixture—do not stir.

  • In a small bowl, combine ½ cup brown sugar with 1 cup hot water. Pour gently over the batter without mixing.

  • Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

  • Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for maximum flavor.

  • Do not stir after layering—let the cobbler bake into its own magic.

  • Add chopped nuts or chocolate chips for extra richness.

  • Delicious as a breakfast treat or dessert.
